Jean
Prosper is a consummate pianist and performer. Jean (pronounced Jon)
hailed from Port-Au-Prince, Haiti prior to his family's emigration to
Montreal, Canada. Classical training in Canada's Royal Conservatory
Program deepened his appreciation for the practices that would give
him mastery of the keyboard. While attending School, he also found enough
time to enter and win the Kiwanis Piano Competition in Ontario.
Further study in piano performance at Indiana University and
frequent concert opportunities have honed his skills and helped develop
his distinctive voice as a musician.
A true jazz artist, his music is rich, soulful and satisfying. Jean's
tone, color and rhythm all reflect the special Prosper sound and mark
of excellence. With his style and skills, he has created a niche for
himself in the competitive world of jazz piano performers.In 1999 Jean
garnered a prestigious Stellar Award nomination
for his release entitled Getting Up Morning. Mastery of his craft is
evidenced in his piano solo project entitled TENDER TOUCH, a
wonderful collection of popular music standards.Jean brings his good
taste and impeccable music style to original compositions of such music
classics as Rogers & Hart's "My Funny Valentine"
and George Gershwin's "Someone To Watch Over Me" to
name a few. His presentations are always command performances.
Jean's spectacular
gift for composition and arrangement are very much in evidence in his
debut release entitled IN THE MOMENT. From
the funky contemporary sound of "Stepping", the Latin
rhythm of "The Journey" to the island textures of "Haiti",
or the bouncy samba beat of "Bush Dance", Jean displays
a sparkling originality and versatility in his musical offerings while
maintaining a seamless musical experience.
With
his gift of music, Jean has traveled across the United States and parts
of Canada sharing and expressing his musical viewpoint. Jean's concerts
have taken him to many cities in the United States and Canada. His cabaret
skills are constantly in demand as evidenced by his enlistment as an
artist of choice for the distinguished Mendel Performing Arts center
of Benton Harbor , Michigan. He has been called upon as reception
entertainment at numerous events including for such world renowned performers
as Ramsey Lewis and Lou Rawls. Additionally, Jean has
twice had the great honor of being called on to perform for the greatest
of all times Muhammad Ali.
Always broadening and stretching himself to the fullest, Jean has delved
into the world of jazz with a passion, communicating with the integrity
of one who knows himself and what his is truly about.
